Hi, my name is Rebecca and I am a side hustler. In my ‘main’ job, I am a Sales and Operations Manager at Action Foods Ltd …but now to my side hustle….
As of January 2023, I began Aarkay IT Solutions, with my Husband, Dhyuman. It’s your go-to place for all things digitally and technically related. We offer website development and maintenance, search engine optimisation, marketing solutions and streamline business purchasing. It all started when we realised there was a need for quality but affordable IT solutions. Too many people were using international freelancers or companies just for cheaper labour. Cost effective - yes, but quality most certainly suffers. Using Dhyuman’s Indian heritage and network, we set up our own team and office in India who we manage and ensure has only the best quality, at an affordable price. We apply UK rules and treatment!
So far to date, we have designed and completed 4 websites – across multiple industries and have 10 clients. We are working on our biggest project at present, a complete website rebuild and redesign. Until this project is complete we have put a pause on additional clients, so we can focus our time, effort and quality on our current projects.
Advice Point One: as your side hustle is not your full-time, only take on what is manageable. Do not be afraid to turn things down or put things on hold. Always prioritise your work accordingly, and most certainly, never rush!
Managing two roles at once can be difficult, but that is why it is crucial to have a plan and set times for each role to commence. For example, I typically work 8am until 4pm at NGTU, and focus on Aarkay any time around that…yes it may mean working mornings, evenings and weekends, but when you have a side hustle, this is a sort of unsaid commitment. You put everything in to see your business succeed and grow, so if that means cancelling some social plans every now and then, then so be it.
Advice Point Two: Ensure your two roles do not overlap, hence why time periods set aside works well. The last thing you want is to be juggling too much at once, so keep it separate. Have your work laptop open for the set hours and then close it and open your side hustle laptop!
I never thought I would have a side hustle and if so, never in this sector. I always dreamt of having my own business but never imagined it coming to fruition. If you are considering starting your own side hustle, don’t fret if you have not figured the idea yet. Sometimes it will come to you in the weirdest time…one life experience can trigger anything! And anything is possible. Any idea no matter how big or small…if you want to try it, give it a go. Whats the worst that can happen? Just ensure to have a plan and strategy behind the idea and you can then let the rest follow.
Advice Point Three: Sometimes it’s about who you know more than what you know at times. So, build your network and turn to them first. If you need help with your accounts for your side hustle, see if you know anyone first, rather than going external. Likewise, for your client base, build it up from friends of friends of friends, use Facebook Groups – start small and manageable!
Happy Side Hustling!
